Roadway Light Pole Foundations: What to Send Before RFQ
A foundation request is not just a concrete question. It connects the complete pole assembly, base interface, loading, road or site plan, underground services and the project’s civil-review process.
This buyer guide helps prepare a useful RFQ. It does not provide a universal foundation design, replace geotechnical investigation, or approve a project’s structural or roadside safety requirements.
The short answer: send the foundation context, not a guessed dimension
A roadway light pole foundation is part of a complete installed system. The pole, bracket or mast arm, luminaires and other mounted equipment, base plate and anchor-bolt interface, site location, loading and local requirements all affect what the project team must review.

What belongs in a light pole foundation RFQ

Why the pole location belongs in the same conversation
For roadway work, a pole location can be constrained by clear-zone review, barriers, slopes, curbs, utilities, drainage, signs, access and maintenance. FHWA’s roadway-lighting guidance notes that roadside conditions can restrict pole placement and spacing, and that safety must be considered when determining pole locations.
Send a marked site plan with the intended pole center and the reference point used for the dimension. If the foundation is for an existing or constrained location, include photographs as supporting context—not as a substitute for measurements, drawings or site review.
New foundation versus replacement foundation
These two RFQ paths use different evidence. Treating a replacement project as a standard new installation can create avoidable compatibility and review questions.
New installation
Provide the layout, proposed pole assembly, site/soil information available at the stage, utility/conduit plan and the intended design-review responsibility.
Existing foundation
Provide original drawings if available, field measurements, bolt-pattern and projection data, orientation, condition information, existing equipment details and the approval route for reuse or replacement.
Do not infer fit from a photo
A photo cannot establish bolt dimensions, anchor condition, reinforcement, foundation geometry, buried services, loading capacity or current compliance for the new assembly.
A practical RFQ sequence
A staged enquiry keeps early pricing useful without presenting a preliminary concept as a released foundation design.

Confirm the drawing revision, bolt pattern, projection, orientation and whether the interface is existing or proposed.
‘The soil is normal’
State whether actual geotechnical or site information exists. Do not turn a general description into a foundation assumption.
‘The supplier will handle it’
Identify who is responsible for civil and structural review, who supplies which components and which approvals are required before release.
