Galvanized vs Powder-Coated Light Poles: How to Choose the Finish Route
Finish selection should start with the metal, the installation environment and the buyer’s appearance requirement. Galvanizing and powder coating solve different problems, so the RFQ should not treat them as interchangeable words.

Start with material before finish
Hot-dip galvanizing is mainly a zinc coating route for fabricated iron and steel products. Powder coating is a coating system used for color, texture and surface protection after the correct pretreatment route is selected.
That distinction matters for light poles. A buyer may write galvanized, powder coated, anodized, brushed, titanium plated or mirror polished, but the right route depends first on whether the pole is steel, aluminum alloy or stainless steel.
Galvanizing question
Usually starts with steel fabrication, corrosion exposure, drainage, venting and a standard such as ASTM A123.
Powder coating question
Usually starts with color, appearance, pretreatment, outdoor exposure and handling protection.

What galvanizing is good at
For steel light pole projects, galvanizing is often discussed when the buyer needs a practical corrosion-protection route. ASTM A123 / A123M is a common reference for hot-dip galvanized coatings on iron and steel products.
Galvanizing is not just a color. It depends on part geometry, weld details, drainage holes, venting, surface condition and whether the finished appearance is acceptable for the project.
