Common Mistakes in Light Pole Quotations
Most slow light pole quotations are not slow because the pole is unusual. They are slow because the enquiry skips ordinary details: project location, fixture load, drawings, finish, installation method and what the buyer needs back.
Use this guide to clean up an RFQ before sending it to a manufacturer or comparing supplier responses.

Mistake 1: asking for price by height only
A message that says 8 m light pole, please quote is not enough. Height is useful, but it does not say what the pole carries, where it is installed, how it is mounted or what finish is required.
Lighting guidance such as the FHWA Lighting Handbook record treats lighting as an application problem, not just a product name. The same idea applies to quotations: application and load data should come before final pole selection.

Mistake 2: not sending fixture EPA and weight
The pole supports devices. For roadway, sports, solar and multifunctional poles, the fixture or device package can change the quotation quickly.
DOE roadway luminaire specification material is useful because it reminds buyers to describe luminaires with structured performance and product data. For a pole quotation, the important practical data is model, weight, wind area or EPA, mounting position and quantity per pole.
Roadway lights
Send luminaire model, weight, EPA or projected area, arm reach and mounting angle.

Send fixture quantity per pole, bracket layout, aiming direction and maintenance method.

Send panel, battery, camera, signage, antenna or equipment box dimensions and weight.
Mistake 3: treating finish as a color word
Black, silver or gray is not a complete finish specification. Finish choice depends on material, project environment, surface expectation and handling risk.
For galvanized steel, ASTM A123 / A123M is a common reference for hot-dip galvanized coatings on iron and steel products. For stainless steel and aluminum alloy projects, other routes may be discussed. A quote should state what finish route is assumed.

Mistake 4: mixing pole quotation and foundation approval
Pole quotation and foundation design are connected, but they are not the same document. A pole supplier can discuss base plate, anchor bolt direction and loading assumptions, while final foundation approval depends on project conditions and local review.
The cleaner RFQ separates what the buyer needs now: price indication, formal pole quotation, drawing comment, anchor bolt reference or tender support.

Mistake 5: comparing quotations without assumptions
Two light pole quotations can look similar and still cover different assumptions. One may include a thicker shaft, different finish route, different packing, different bracket or different review scope.
Before asking suppliers to revise price, copy each supplier’s assumptions into one comparison note. If the note cannot say material, height, fixture load, finish, mounting method and included documents, the comparison is not ready.

Mistake 6: forgetting maintenance and installation access
A pole that looks easy to buy may be difficult to maintain. Sports poles, solar poles and multifunctional poles can need different access for fixtures, batteries, controllers, cameras or equipment boxes.
